Go, You!

I used to want to be liked. And I learned that pleasing others is exhausting.

Next I hoped to be accepted. And I learned that approval is insidious.

Then I desired to be understood. And I learned discernment is both a gift and a choice.

Now I validate myself. And I learn that authenticity is sacred.

If you have ever felt alienated when you are fully being you, remember this:

As a whole, we people have always needed to express ourselves to others. From cave walls to the Louvre. From telegraphing to texting. From social visits to social media.

Self-expression creates community. It’s also part of our self-awareness process.

When we share with others, we actually create ourselves. Because what we focus our attention on, grows. We are magnets, in that what we offer attracts more of the same right back at us.

Who do you want to be? Okay, that’s pretty huge. Let’s begin with, What kind of day do you wish to have today?

Great minds discuss ideas; average minds discuss events; small minds discuss people. Eleanor Roosevelt

The good news is that this is flexible. If you don’t like the current story of your life, or maybe just a particular chapter or passage, then change it. Begin by attending to how you visit and what you share with others.

When I describe a major event (such as a new job, empty nesting, or the passing of a parent) as going through a difficult time, then that’s exactly what it becomes. Yet when I describe the same situation as navigating a new normal, or charting change, or even maneuvering a milestone, I now have an entirely different experience of this life process. And I know which one feels better to me.

Beginning to make this switch is as simple as one word .  I can start with going from “What’s wrong?” to “What’s up?”

What we pass along is who we become. What are you creating with your Likes and Shares? (Click to Tweet this. Yes, that’s irony.)

What we choose to share, defines who we are. C. Voyatzis
Did you have any Ahas? What would you like to attract more of in your life? Is it easier to forget to attend to what we express because of social media, or is it the same as when we did it over the phone or across the table from someone? Easily Increase Your Abundance With This Simple Action

three fingers painted like happy people, together

Do you randomly receive hits to do spontaneous acts of kindness?

For example, when it crosses your mind at a drive-through window how great it would be to pay for the meal of the person behind you.

Or, as you walk out to get your package from the UPS driver you realize that a water or juice from your fridge might make their day.

How about when you pick up your produce at the family fruit/veggie stand, and it occurs to you to add a buck or two just because.

We get these thoughts often. However, we usually act on them sporadically, rarely, or not at all. We’re selective with our generosity, afraid of compromising our own abundance by giving too much of it away.

But here’s the surprising thing about abundance: It’s not really about the “stuff.”

Make Space for Miracles

I didn’t make any New Year’s resolutions, but I did spend time getting clear on what I’d like to purposefully create this year. Picking one to begin with, I’ve even finally taken the first step. Which of course easily led to the next. And the next. And now here I am.

Here happens to be Panic-Town; Population:One. Because my idea is actually now happening, but I’m roadblocking myself. I’m at a fork in the road, and must choose the correct path to create the best outcome. One or the other, which path do I take?

And then I finally realized: It’s not up to me to decide.

God’s got this. The best outcome for the highest good of everyone involved (including myself) is the only thing that can and will happen, when I get out of my way. Who am I to say what that looks like? All I need to do is allow. Receive. Show up. None of these things are passive: they are conscious action of letting the Divine Universe work through you.

My job is not to create the outcome. My job is to create space for the outcome. (Click to Tweet this.)

So maybe starting a public writers’ group at a coffee shop will end up as an intimate writers’ circle in my home. Or vice versa. I don’t have to choose which route to go — I just need to create space for whichever outcome will evolve. (It might even be a whole other option that I’m not even envisioning!)

Instead of deciding the outcome and working backward, try holding space for a miracle as you flow forward.

This or something better, according to You, God. And so it is.
Are you working on a project, resolution, behavior, or relationship? If you let go of creating the outcome and instead created space for the outcome, how would you feel about your situation? Please share in the comments below.
