The practice of being agreeable

There’s a practice I’ve heard of, where you are simply agreeable for a day.
Okay, okay — maybe that’s better described as a challenge. (I’ll bet someone in your life popped into your head there. Maybe it’s your own self. I see you.)
Either way, the idea is that we purposefully, mindfully, and consciously choose to respond with being agreeable. To everyone. To everything.
No, this does not automatically turn us into a Yes-Person for the day. In being agreeable, we don’t have to agree with — that is not actually the goal outcome. In being agreeable, we are creating space and possibility in which to become open, receptive, expansive, connecting. We can bring our Yes if it is authentic. Otherwise we can bring our neutrality. We just stop bringing our rulings; we don’t reign on the parade.

Are you in a stage of things spinning up in your life? Or, are you in a period of rest in between? Life cycles on.
Currently, I am emerging from a time of relative rest (pondering the big-picture, next-chapter desires) and literally moving into a time of uber-busy (we just sold our house).
Have you ever experienced that when you’re really needed for your own life, some parts of that can feel overwhelming and frustrating?
I’ve found that when I’m spinning plates, juggling balls, and herding kittens, it helps to remember what’s important.
And then I re-found this, from Kate Northrup. Regardless of where you’re at and what’s going on for you, I invite you to read this beautiful piece and be nourished.

Today we have a guest writer! The most recent newsletter from My Spirit Experience stunned me, in an absolutely beautiful way. I asked Heidi Steffens, business proprietor and author of the newsletter, if I could share it here. Please enjoy as much as I do, if not more.
Navigating this Summer
We’re in the depths of summer, we’re dealing with the lack of rain and unquenchable heat, glaring inequalities in our communities, and navigating reconnecting with others while coming up against a serious resurgence of the pandemic. We’re getting tired.
What I have found grounding and recharging is taking care of my own patch of Earth with the space and people in it. My spouse and I have selectively found what we are willing to fight for in our little 3 acre yard and we’re putting the work in to keep the plants and bee-ings alive. I’m talking with the trees as I’m dragging hoses and buckets of water around and letting them all know I’m here for them and won’t give up. My spouse is tending to the vegetables and connecting with the bees to make sure they can still thrive when there are few flowers blooming and water is scarce and evaporating under the sun.
I’m also taking action where I can to keep myself and others safe and I won’t give up. I send healing energy to the planet and people who are willingly accepting this energy. I am reaching out to friends and family, checking in and connecting in person when possible. I make sure they are holding their own or giving a boost if needed. This is a new cycle that instead of fighting it, I fight within it for something better.
When I need a break again, I breathe and focus on gratitude…and water the trees.

“This is a new cycle that instead of fighting it, I fight within it for something better.”
Holy wow.
What will I fight for, in gratitude, today?
What will you?

That was zen, this is tao

This absolutely made me smile.
Still does, every time I think of it.
Thank you, L from Canada, for meditating with me on Insight Timer!
What makes you smile today?

I’ve already put in a full day and it’s only just past noon. I’m feeling overworked, my head is spinning up, and I need to get a grip.
And then I read this, above.
Oh.
Now I see my same day in this way:
I feel really great about having the day’s necessary work done already. I can create a different pace for my afternoon. I’ll begin with giving myself a gentle pause.
Yep. The Universe has my back. I’m glad for the reminder today.
In what way can you actively realize this for yourself, in this moment?
