Supercharge your morning (part 15)

“What is one thing you can do this morning to make all your tomorrows be your best yet?”

Just for this morning

create a clearer future.

What’s past is past

Make clarity your watchword.

Clear the decks.

Tom Evans, Supercharge Your Morning

“How does your day look?” When I ask myself that simple question, I can easily become torn between opposing thoughts. One, I want to intentionally stand down from constant overdoing (my natural resting state — oh, the irony). I’d prefer to create a state of ease and joy and peace and Glide. “Let’s just see what the day brings.” Two, I actually do have things that need to be accomplished (both for this day and for overall goals, dreams, and projects). Although I want to be open to the possibilities of my unfolding day, if I want something to happen then for crying out loud I need to attend to it. “Let’s simply roll up the sleeves and get to it.”

On the one hand, I don’t want to completely dictate my day and not leave room for unexpected blessings. Yet I also don’t want to be a victim to my day by only waiting to see what it brings for me. Yikes! I’m already all angst-y and I haven’t even finished my coffee.

And then, I clear the decks.

What if these two approaches are actually not opposing? What if it’s not one or the other, but both?

When I stop looking at what I don’t want for my day, I clear the way for what I do. Today, I want to get some things done and I want to leave room open for magic.

Today, that looks like this:

  • I’ll clean one toilet
  • I’ll draft one page of my current writing piece
  • I’ll add the updates to one of my professional development courses
  • I’ll roll with everything else

Angst is replaced by clarity. Clarity brings peace. Peace brings contentment. I am again ease and joy, and I haven’t even finished my coffee.

How does my day look? I clearly know that my day looks great.

How does your day look? Can you clear your decks and get rolling, too?
